The Tomah Area School District has the following extracurricular vacancy beginning in the 2025-2026 school year: TMS Jazz Band Director
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
The TMS Jazz Band Director is responsible for teaching the Beginning and Advanced Jazz Bands at TMS. The purpose of these groups is to teach the fundamentals of the Jazz style of music, and to offer musicians an additional ensemble to foster their love of music.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Set rehearsal schedules
- Recruit/audition for ensembles
- Pick music/part assign
- Rehearse both ensembles
- Direct groups at performances
- Communicate with parents about rehearsals and performances
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to read music
- Must have proficiency playing band instruments
- Must be able to work with middle school students
- Must be able to transpose/rewrite parts as needed
- Must coordinate with TMS/THS Band teachers for rehearsal spaces and performance needs
- Must have a basic understanding of the Jazz Style of music
